Delicious Portuguese Food Series: Leite creme
Crème brûlée is normally considered an original French recipe – although Spanish and British also claim it as their invention.
The first reference to the famous dessert shows up in a book from 1691, written by François Massaliot – a French chef the cuisine that served important people like the Duke of Orléans.
In Portugal, we have our own version of crème brûlée. We call it leite creme and it is very appreciated in the Portuguese homes and restaurants.
This week, we had probably one of the most beautiful leite cremes of Lisbon in a great restaurant. So beautiful that it took us some time to start – we didn’t want to destroy it -, but we were glad to discover that the beauty was matched by the delicious flavor.
