Portugal safe to travel: 11th safest destination in the world
Portugal is one of the safest places to travel in the world. The country is part of the top 15 that has been published by British newspaper The Independent, based in data provided by the Global Peace Index.
According to the list, Portugal is the 11th safest place to travel in the world. Iceland remains on top of the list, being considered, since 2007, the most untroubled global destination. The top 3 is completed with Denmark and Austria.

Portugal surpasses Ireland, Sweden, Belgium and Slovenia in the list.
The list is presented after the terrorist attacks in France and shows that Europe is still the most represented continent in the top 15 of the safest places to travel in the world. Only 4 countries of the list are outside Europe.
Portugal has also one of the lowest violent crimes rates in Europe and the capital, Lisbon, is a pretty safe city, even at night.
